UNIT 9 ECOSYSTEMS

9.1 Animal around Us

Community: all different population and organism that live together in a habitat

Ecosystem: an interaction between community and non-living environment.

Example: in a garden, population of plants, bees, and butterflies make up a community interacts with sunlight, air, water, and soil.

9.2 examples of ecosystems

Ecosystem can be terrestrial and aquatic. Examples of terrestrial ecosystem are:

Tropical rain forest: warm and receive high rainfall throughout the year. Divided into four layer. Some animal that can be found are monkey, eagle, butterfly, toucan, slot, jaguar, tree frog, fungus, giant 
anteater.

Savannas: type of grassland that have wet and dry seasons. Some have all trees and short shrubs. Some organism that can be found are acacia and baobab tree, elephants, hippopotamus, giraffes, lion, and cheetah.

Desserts: very dry places that receive very little rainfall every year. Very hot during the day and very cold at night. Organism that can be found are cacti, camels, and fennel foxes.

Examples of aquatic ecosystem are:

Fresh water: has low salt content. Water in lakes and ponds is still, river and streams are fast moving. Plants and animals can be found on the surface, in the water, and bottom of the pond.

Oceans: large bodies of water with high salt content. Divided into ocean floor and open water. Ocean floor maybe rocky, sandy, or muddy. Some animals can be found are crabs, starfish, clams, and sponges. Animals that can be found on open water are dolphin, octopus, and turtles.
