UNIT 6 PHOTOSYNTHESIS
UNIT
6 PHOTOSYNTHESIS
6.1 REQUIREMENT OF
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
All
living things need energy to stay alive. Plants make their own food through a
process called photosynthesis. To do photosynthesis plant need sun light,
chlorophyll, carbon dioxide.
6.2 PROCESS OF
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
- Carbon
dioxide enters the leaves through the Stomata
- Water
is absorbed by the roots and transported to the leaves.
- Oxygen
produced during photosynthesis is given out by the plant through the Stomata
into the surrounding air.
- Sugar
produced during photosynthesis in the leaves is transported to all other
parts of plant to be used as a food.
During
photosynthesis, the energy from the sunlight is used to combine carbon dioxide
and water to produce a sugar and oxygen.
6.3 STORAGE OF
STARCH
Sugar
is stored as starch if the plant produced sugar more than it can used.
The
starch can be used as food when they cannot make food at night time or winter.
Starch
may be stored in stems, leaves, seeds, roots
